The summer is coming to an end. You might be unpacking from summertime vacation and pondering where your next one might be. Or you’re running around trying to figure out how to salvage the last few summer days to getaway.
Fret not my friend. I’ve got you’re next vacation destination. Hello Atlanta!
If you live in Georgia, you may know a few reasons why Atlanta is a prime vacation destination but chances are, you haven’t experienced all that the city has to offer either.
The Metro Atlanta Area is huge and it has everything from mouthwatering cuisine to post-worthy murals and memorable historic landmarks!
My husband and I have loved here for about four years and still haven’t seen all that this city has to offer.
We spent our first wedding anniversary walking and driving through the streets of ATL. We found our favorite breakfast spot, The Atlanta Breakfast Club and got to see the city more than we had just by driving through.
There’s so much to do here, it’s no wonder Travel + Leisure included Atlanta on its list of 50 destinations to visit in 2019!
If you’re looking to plan a staycation or your next vacation, here’s why you should really consider choosing Atlanta:
- An array of Attractions If museums tickle your fancy, Atlanta has a couple of choice selections to choose from. Visit the High Museum for a taste of upscale art or drop by the Children’s Museum for a day of family fun!
The World of Coke makes for a day of fun exploring as you learn the history behind the secret to why Coca-Cola is so darn good. The Georgia Aquarium is a sight to see, although I disagree that it’s the largest and best (I’m partial to the one in my hometown, Long Beach, CA), it’s still worth taking the kiddos to or visiting with your Honey!
- Chill Hangout Spots Atlantic Station, The Battery, Westside Provisions District, and Ponce City Market are my favorite places to shop and dine. Each of them also has something fun for the whole family.
The Battery is an extension of SunTrust Park where the Braves play. This exciting scene has a ton of swanky restaurants and a bowling alley. If you’re into carnival-style games and mini-golf visit the top of Ponce City Market and snap a few Instagram worthy photos of yourself with a great view of the city as your backdrop. Love catching a film with the fam? Atlantic Station is the spot for you.
Amongst shops and casual to fine dining is a movie theater nestled inside of this unique area of entertainment. Don’t forget to try one of my favorite places to stop for ice cream, Kilwin’s!
- Hotels Galore Atlanta has a plethora of places to sleep comfortably! You can stay anywhere from Villa Christina in Perimeter to The new (at the time I’m writing this) SpringHill Suites next to Centennial Park!
Depending on the time of year you’re visiting, prices will vary between wildly affordable to budget-breaking so be careful to choose a reasonable time. If you need some tips on saving money when you travel, check out this post! Comment below if you want to know my favorite Atlanta hotels.
- Eat. Eat More. Eat again!: Atlanta is bursting at the seams due to the amount of quality places to eat. Travel + Leisure doesn’t call Atlanta a Cuisine Capital for no reason! There’s something for every food-lover! If you love burgers, try my favorite burger joint, Yeah! Burger.
Their food is all-natural and I don’t mean they’re natural with a side of GMO chemicals and hormones. I mean they serve real, all-natural food and drinks. Their hot dogs aren’t infested with nitrites, so pregnant ladies, if you’re craving a hot dog, this may be the spot for you (always do your own research and ask questions about nitrites and nitrates though as they can be harmful to a growing body).
I love soda but hate high fructose corn syrup so I love Yeah! Burgers line of pure cane, high fructose corn syrup free sodas! Can you tell I love this restaurant? Heck Yeah!
- History If you’re a History Buff, Atlanta has a healthy dose of it. Whether you visit the home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. or the famous Ebenezer Baptist Church or the Civil Rights Museum, you’ll get a taste of plenty of rich history. Here’s one for fans of the Hunger Games: Mockingjay 1 and 2, which were filmed here in Georgia; you can tour President Snow’s Mansion at the Atlanta History Center!
- Shop ’til you drop! The Atlanta area is a shopper’s fantasy! If you’re looking for a palate of upscale stores, mosey on over to Phipps Plaza and Lenox Mall! Want to get more for your bucks? One of our outlets should suit you just fine!
So there you have it folks, six reasons why Atlanta should be your next vacation destination! There are obviously so many more reasons we could add to this list.
We haven’t even talked about how great our airport is for those of you who would be flying in (be sure to use the iFly ATL app for terminal, dining and flight info). With a myriad of reasons to visit Atlanta, you’ll just have to visit yourself to experience all the great things this place has to offer!
When you do come to visit, let us know in the comments what you loved about ATL and we might add it to the list!
