We prayed for God to bless us with a free Honeymoon and viola, it happened! Okay, so not simply like that, but He did make a way. For some couples, home goods and things to make their first house a cozy home is important.
For us, we knew we wouldn’t be moving into our forever home until Alex is done with school. Picture frames were nice, but they weren’t getting us to Disney World. All we wanted was a Honeymoon. Of course, we still created a registry with a few items on it (including our fave board games) just because we wanted to experience scanning things all over the store. We really only listed things that were essential to begin our lives together. Other than that, we requested mula for our Honeymoon.
It was posted ever so sweetly on our wedding website, we spread the word when people asked about our Honeymoon plans and told our moms to tell all the elders that asked what we wanted that we simply wanted money for a vacation! The Honeymoon is crucial for couples because it is the first time you get to leave the stress from the wedding and work behind to start your marriage on an exciting trip creating memories that will last longer than a box of fine china.
Don’t get me wrong, traditional wedding gifts are great too and sometimes necessary, but if you guys can’t afford a Honeymoon, making it your primary gifting option is a wonderful recommendation. There are a ton of ways to do it now. There are GoFundMe accounts, Cash App and so many more avenues to collect the mula to go on a fabulous vacay.
Okay, so this sounds good, but how do you plan a trip if you don’t have all of the money before the wedding? So glad you asked! We started researching where we wanted to stay, how many days we wanted to stay there and how much it would all cost. We even looked into Timeshares that offered discounted rooms and theme park tickets if you attended a presentation (most major hotel chains have a Timeshare so there may be one where your destination is).
We were only twenty-four and didn’t make enough to do that, but it’s an option if you qualify. We knew the number we needed for the vacation we wanted and prayed diligently to see that number.
Some family members sent money ahead of time which helped, but most provided it in the cards given to us on our Wedding Day. That night we counted it all up and prayed for our vision to become a reality. I know you may be thinking, what if it wasn’t enough? Well, we had faith that it would be and we were prepared to plan for another vacation at a later time if this one didn’t have all of the bells and whistles.
Lastly, we counted all of the loose change and cash we kept in a dollar store piggy bank. That was like free money because we hardly thought it would amount to much after simply tossing change in it over the course of a few months, but it paid for a few meals. We packed up our hopes of everything covering what we needed and we headed to AAA.
You know those movies where the guy or girl or couple just spontaneously takes a trip to wherever the next flight was headed to. I always wanted to do that, which is kind of what we did. The AAA concierge set us up with flights that left the next day, a rental car and Disney World tickets. A colleague of mine helped us get a sweet deal at the Rosen Shingle Creek and we were off!
This method of getting a free Honeymoon may not work for everyone, but it certainly worked for us. We enjoyed the spontaneity of it all. We had to work together to create a budget to spend the money so it stretched all seven days and we had a ball creating this trip together.
We had already taken the time off from work and knew our destination so waiting for the resources wasn’t hard. We were prepared to be flexible if things didn’t go as planned, but we walked in faith believing God would provide us with a Honeymoon that we didn’t have to pay for and it worked.
We spent our Honeymoon at the happiest place on earth and at a luxurious resort. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!
